Robbie Keane keeping options open, says 'change is good'

Major League Soccer MVP Robbie Keane said he will consider his options this offseason, saying "sometimes change is good."

Keane, who scored the winning goal in the MLS Cup final triumph over the New England Revolution on Sunday, has one year left on his contract with the LA Galaxy.

But he didn't rule out a move elsewhere for 2015.

"I definitely need to recharge the batteries and see what the next chapter is for me, whether it's here or it's somewhere else," Keane said at a team celebration on Monday night, according to MLSsoccer.com.

"I'm not saying I'm going to leave, but what I'm saying is I need to consider what I want to do, you know? Sometimes change is good for everybody."

Keane, 34, is still a first-choice striker for Republic of Ireland, who have six key matches in 2015 in their battle to qualify for Euro 2016, and a move to Europe for his club football next season might make the required travel easier.

Keane, however, said he would decide his future after taking a holiday.

"First and foremost, I've got to worry about myself," he said. "I have to worry about what I'm going to do. I've had a tremendous four years here. I need a vacation and see what next year holds for me first. I'll look at that first and see what's best for Robbie Keane instead of worrying about anybody else.

"I'll take a vacation, and then I'll see what I want to do first."

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena, however, said he was sure Keane would return to Los Angeles in 2015.

"I doubt that," he said when told of Keane's comments. "Where do you think he's going? I'm confident Robbie Keane will be back here next year."

With the retirement of Landon Donovan, the Galaxy have a designated player slot open and could add another global star -- Andrea Pirlo is among the rumors -- to play with Keane and U.S. center-back Omar Gonzalez.

"We won't replace Landon," Arena said after the rally. "But we're going to get another good player, no question about that."
