Pal Dardai to stay coach of Hungary through Euro qualifying

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- The Hungarian soccer federation says Pal Dardai will remain coach of the country's national team until the end of qualifying for the 2016 European Championship.

Dardai, a 38-year-old former midfielder who played 61 times for Hungary, was interim coach during one friendly and three Euro 2016 qualifying matches after the dismissal of Attila Pinter in September.

Dardai, who will retain his job with Hertha Berlin's youth teams, says urging from his 8-year-old son convinced him to take the Hungary position until Nov. 30, 2015.

Hungary, in third place behind Romania and Northern Ireland in Group F, drew 1-1 with Romania in Bucharest and defeated the Faeroe Islands and Finland 1-0 under Dardai.

In their next qualifying match, the Hungarians host Greece on March 29.
