Parma facing points deduction (1:11)

Serie A side Parma are staring at a points deduction for financial instability after not paying taxes or wages for three months. (1:11)

ROME -- Parma are now further adrift at the bottom of the Serie A table after they were handed a one-point penalty for failing to pay players' salaries.

The Italian Football Federation announced the deduction on Tuesday, and also banned Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi and CEO Pietro Leonardi from league activities for two months.

The club and the two administrators were also each fined 5,000 euros ($6,000).

With only two wins from 14 matches, Parma have just five points, three behind Cesena and six behind Cagliari.

On Sunday, Leonardi announced that Ghirardi was in talks to sell the club to a Russian-Cypriot conglomerate. The deal is worth a reported seven million euros ($8.6 million).

The unpaid salaries stem from November and December of last year.
