Vincent Kompany, David Silva train ahead of Roma vs. Manchester City

Manchester City were given an injury boost ahead of their crucial Champions League game against Roma when Vincent Kompany and David Silva were among a quartet of key players who trained.

The defender and the playmaker, plus Fernandinho and Stevan Jovetic, who missed Saturday's 1-0 win over Everton, all worked with the rest of the squad to fuel hopes they could be fit to play in the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.

Captain Kompany has missed City's last two games with the hamstring problem he picked up in the closing minutes of the 3-0 win at Southampton.

Midfielder Silva has sat out City's last eight games and has not played since October with the knee injury he sustained in the Capital One Cup defeat to Newcastle.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said on Friday that the World Cup winner could have come into consideration for the Everton game but he did not want to risk Silva.

Jovetic and Fernandinho did not face Roberto Martinez's side but it was anticipated both would be fit for the Roma game while Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov, who had both been sidelined, were available against Everton.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina striker came off the bench while the Serbian left-back was an unused substitute.

City will definitely be without their 19-goal top scorer Sergio Aguero, who suffered a knee injury on Saturday, and Yaya Toure, who serves the second of a three-match ban for his dismissal in the 2-1 defeat to CSKA Moscow.

Fernandinho was sent off in the same match but he has now served his one-match suspension.
