Simon Mignolet: Liverpool thinking only about beating Basel in UCL

Simon Mignolet has said he does not mind whether or not he keeps a clean sheet against FC Basel at Anfield on Tuesday -- as long as Liverpool win to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Liverpool goalkeeper says he and his teammates are ready for the must-win clash and are determined to put this season's inconsistencies behind them to secure qualification.

Brendan Rodgers' side have won only once in the Champions League this season -- against Ludogorets at Anfield in September -- but remain in with a chance despite three defeats, two to Real Madrid and another away to Tuesday's opponents.

The Daily Mirror quoted Mignolet as saying no-one at Anfield was focusing on anything other than progress, adding: "Nobody is thinking about not getting through. The only thing we are thinking about is getting the result that we need.

"We are only thinking about winning. That is the job in hand and the one we are focusing on. Everything else goes out of the window.

"Personally, I would be happy conceding a goal and the team winning. That is how it is. Why? I am footballer and I like to win.

"Of course I want the clean sheet, because that will make it easier and mean we only have to score one goal, but winning is the most important thing."

Mignolet's form has been under the spotlight in Liverpool's stuttering season so far, but he stressed that he would focus only on the challenges ahead.

"The only thing you can do is your best every single game," he explained. "Let's focus on the next game. The only thing I can do is work hard and keep doing my thing.

"I said a few weeks ago that I deal with the good performances the same way as I do with the bad ones. I am my biggest critic, and I just try to work as hard as I can."
