Roman Weidenfeller: I must accept losing Borussia Dortmund place

Germany international goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has said he needs to "accept" being dropped by Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp, whose side have suffered a disastrous Bundesliga campaign so far, opted to play Australia international Mitch Langerak in goal against Hoffenheim on Friday.

And his decision was vindicated as Langerak kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 home victory.

The coach said the 26-year-old's selection had been "a gut decision," telling reporters that Weidenfeller could return for the Champions League match against Anderlecht on Wednesday.

Football magazine kicker reported that the Germany international had only been informed he was being dropped during a team meeting around two hours prior to kick-off.

"It was purely a sporting decision," 34-year-old Weidenfeller told the magazine. "I have to accept it."

Kicker questioned whether Klopp had been right to drop the Germany international with so little notice, adding: "It reveals a lack of sensitivity."

But the coach said: "Like hell I will ask players whether they find it cool to not play... Roman is experienced enough. He can cope with it, no problem."

On Monday, tabloid Bild questioned whether Weidenfeller would be at BVB for much longer should he not return to the team quickly, but sporting director Michael Zorc said: "The coach has already explained it. It was a gut decision, not one for the rest of the season."
