U.S. Soccer sets 2015 U.S. national team friendlies

CARSON, Calif. -- The United States national team will open a busy 2015 schedule with a Jan. 28 friendly in South America against 2014 World Cup participant Chile.

The U.S. announced a slate of seven friendlies to open 2015 on Tuesday, with home games against Panama and Mexico but plenty of away tests in Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands and World Cup champions Germany.

The start, the Americans will meet a Chile team who reached the Round of 16 at last summer's tournament in Brazil before being eliminated by the host nation on penalties.

The specific location of the match wasn't been announced, but sources told ESPN FC that the Estadio Nacional in Chile's capital of Santiago may be ruled out.

The Americans will open their annual training camp in the Los Angeles area on Jan. 12. They'll travel to Chile in advance of that game, then return to Southern California to meet regional rival Panama at StubHub Center on Feb. 8.

The first two friendlies of 2015 don't fall on FIFA fixtures dates, meaning that MLS-heavy rosters are likely.

A trip to face Denmark follows during a FIFA international break on March 25, followed by Switzerland in Zurich on March 31. The U.S. should have its full contingent of domestic and Europe-based players available for those games.

The national team will then meet arch-rival Mexico at home on April 15 at a venue still to be determined in another game featuring MLS players.

The next official FIFA dates come in June, and the U.S. will face a pair of all-world foes in Europe with a June 5 date with fifth-ranked Netherlands, and another road match on June 10 against world champions Germany in Cologne.

Jurgen Klinsmann's squad is also likely to play a home tune-up later in June in advance of July's CONCACAF Gold Cup, which once again will be held in the United States.

The U.S. has either hosted or co-hosted all 12 previous editions of the bi-annual confederation championship.
