Arjen Robben: Pep Guardiola is tactically the best coach in the world

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben says Pep Guardiola has taken the team to a new level in the past 18 months.

Guardiola took over from Jupp Heynckes as Bayern coach in the summer of 2013, claiming the German Double in his first season in charge.

The Bavarians are currently on course to repeat that feat this term, while they are already safely through to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

During Guardiola's time at the club, Robben has been impressed by his tactical work, with the Spaniard having deployed 11 different systems in 21 games this season.

"When we are in possession, tactically he is the best coach in the world for me," Robben told kicker. "He works hard, watches a lot of games, and prepares us really well. Guardiola has the feeling for gaping spaces, and he already had that as a player.

"He's a perfectionist. And our advantage is that we no longer have to get used to each other. We have improved this season, we are calmer when in possession, and we attack better when losing the ball."

Robben is under contract at Bayern until 2017 -- one year longer than Guardiola, who recently said that he is in no hurry to discuss a new deal.

And the Netherlands international, who joined Bayern in 2009, hopes that the partnership between coach and club will continue beyond 2016.

"I am under contract until 2017, and I want to work with him until then," Robben said.

Despite featuring on the original Ballon d'Or shortlist, Robben failed to make the final three, which instead includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Bayern teammate Manuel Neuer.

But although he has impressed for both club and country in 2014, the winger is not too disappointed to miss out.

"It would have been nice. But I am also a happy person without it," he said.

When asked whether, unlike Ronaldo and Messi, he might lack a brand to sell off the pitch, he answered: "I won't comment on this, everybody contemplates it. I have performed in 2014.

"They are three world-class players, and they have all deserved it. I am especially delighted for Manuel Neuer and I hope that he wins it. He's the best keeper in the world by a mile."
