Landon Donovan and Thierry Henry were named to Major League Soccer's annual Best XI squad on Tuesday, ranking them once again among the league's elite even as they prepare to leave MLS. MLS players, club leaders and media members voted one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards to the Best XI (the second straight season voting has resulted in a 3-4-3 formation), with only two newcomers to the team this year. This is the seventh time in his career that Donovan has been named to the Best XI, breaking a tie with MLS veteran Dwayne De Rosario for the most of any player in league history. Donovan had one of his best seasons statistically in 2014, finishing the regular season with 10 goals and a career-high 19 assists as the Galaxy finished second in the Western Conference and just missed winning the Supporters' Shield for best regular-season record. Donovan and the Galaxy host the New England Revolution in the MLS Cup final on Sunday (3 p.m. ET; ESPN) in Donovan's final game as a professional. In August, he announced his plans to retire following the season. Henry received the honor for a third time after also being named to the Best XI in 2011 and 2012. His Red Bulls teammate Bradley Wright-Phillips also made the squad after tying the league's regular-season scoring record with 27 goals. Robbie Keane is on the list for the third straight year after scoring 19 goals with 14 assists in 29 regular-season games. He's joined by Galaxy teammates Donovan and defender Omar Gonzalez. Keane is a finalist for the MLS MVP award, which will be announced Wednesday, along with New England's Lee Nguyen and Seattle's Obafemi Martins, who also both made the Best XI. Martins is joined on the team by Defender of the Year Chad Marshall, who made the Best XI for the third time. Two D.C. United players, center-back Bobby Boswell and goalkeeper Bill Hamid, also earned spots on the team, to go with coach Ben Olsen's Coach of the Year Award. Portland's Diego Valeri was the only player from a team not to make the playoffs on the squad.
