Mauricio Pochettino backs misfiring Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado

Mauricio Pochettino has backed Roberto Soldado to start scoring regularly for Tottenham, and says the striker has been "unlucky" in front of goal.

Soldado, 29, moved to White Hart Lane last summer for 26 million pounds after scoring 59 in 101 league games for Valencia, but has netted just six times in 34 Premier League appearances and has failed to score since September.

The striker hit the post in the Europa League win over Partizan Belgrade on Thursday, but his coach believes the Spaniard will find his finishing touch ahead of Everton's visit on Sunday.

"We need to give him the chances to play again and keep him calm," Sky Sports reports Pochettino as saying. "A striker always wants to score but against Partizan he created chances pretty well and was unlucky in front of goal. Maybe next time he will score.

"We work very hard at training and create the exercises for him to improve his finishing in front of goal, but he created many chances and was unlucky not to score [against Partizan].

"In football it's always mental and emotions, performances, physical condition -- all these things affect your performance, but his performance was very good. For me, he was unlucky with his finishing."
