Arsene Wenger hailed Arsenal's consistency as the club qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League for the 15th straight season with victory over Borussia Dortmund. (1:42)

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey believes the 2-0 Champions League win against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday could prove to be a turning point in the Gunners turbulent season.

Arsene Wenger's side have suffered their worst start to a campaign in 32 years after some indifferent results left them 15 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, but Ramsey hopes their progression to the knock-out stages of the Champions League will boost confidence.

"We picked up where we left off from Man United in terms of the way we played, but we got the early goal this time," the Welsh midfielder told reporters.

"It always helps when you score first and you could see the confidence in the team [afterwards]. We defended really well and kept a clean sheet.

"I said the other day that hopefully we would win against Dortmund, as it was a fantastic game to test ourselves after a disappointing defeat by United. We have come out winners and hopefully now we can get back to winning ways in the Premier League and go on a run there as well."

Ramsey went on to heap praise on Arsenal star man Alexis Sanchez, who he suggested as similar qualities to those exuded by Barcelona's Luis Suarez and Manchester City's Sergio Aguero.

"With the South American players, it is sort of bred into them to work hard, he is no different to any of the other players like Suarez or Aguero, so we are grateful to have him in our team," stated Ramsey.

"He gives 100 per cent. We like to train hard. He works hard for the team and when he gets an opportunity to score, he scores. we are grateful to have him in our team.

"It took him a couple of games to get into it, but he has not stopped scoring since. The thing which has impressed me most about him is his work-rate off the ball. It's always nice when the team is scoring goals, at the moment, he is doing it."
