Man United's injury woes continue with Luke Shaw sidelined until 2015

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is expected to miss the rest of 2014 with the ankle injury he sustained in Saturday's 2-1 win against Arsenal, according to reports.

The Daily Telegraph is among those suggesting 27 million pound summer signing Shaw is set to sit out the hectic month of December and the festive fixture list after sustaining ligament damage as he turned his ankle at Emirates Stadium.

Shaw's latest injury is the latest in a relentless run of misfortune for United's defenders this season, with Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair, Jonny Evans and Marcos Rojo all spending time in the treatment room in the last three months.

United recently appointed former Southampton physio Matt Radcliffe as their 'injury prevention specialist', but it seems as if bad luck as much as lack of medial care is the ongoing issue for Louis van Gaal's defenders.

However, there has been some good news for Van Gaal this week, amid reports that summer signing Rojo is back in training as he battles back from a dislocated shoulder he suffered in the defeat against Manchester City last month.

Meanwhile, Jonny Evans is closing in on a return to action after he played an hour of United's reserve game against Blackburn on Tuesday, but this Saturday's Premier League game against Hull may come too soon for the Northern Ireland defender after two months out with an ankle problem.
