Antonio Conte hopes Palermo forward Paulo Dybala will opt to play for Italy

Italy coach Antonio Conte has said he would like to persuade Palermo forward Paulo Dybala to play for Italy rather than opting for either Argentina or Poland.

Dybala, 21, was born in Argentina and has a Polish grandfather and an Italian grandmother.

That means he can choose from those three nations when he comes to make his decision, and he told Italy's RAI television on Wednesday: "I dream of playing for Argentina -- but if Conte calls me, I'll think about it."

And the Italy coach, speaking during a visit to Palermo's training facilities on Wednesday, stressed: "Paulo's a lad we're very much interested in. We've just got to find out whether he's also interested in the Italy national team."

Dybala's goals and performances against AC Milan and Genoa have made him the talk of Serie A, with Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini saying earlier this month: "Within two years, he's going to be better than Cristiano Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi and [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic.

"It would take 40 million euros to take him away from us. He's the best striker in Serie A."

Dybala joined Palermo from Institute AC Cordoba two seasons ago, and remained with the club following their relegation to Serie B, becoming first-choice forward following the departure of Fabrizio Miccoli.

Zamparini has already seen players including Edinson Cavani, who joined Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli for 64.5 million euros 18 months ago, come to prominence at Palermo.
