Nabil Khaznadar has told AS he will negotiate with Malaga to bring Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to Santos if he wins elections for the club presidency next month.

"We're interested in various players in La Liga and one of them is Ochoa," the entrepreneur said. "At Santos, we don't have a good goalkeeper and he meets all of our requirements.

"We need a great player as well as someone who is an icon in terms of marketing. We believe in his potential after what we saw at the World Cup in Brazil."

Khaznadar said he was looking to recruit marketable players for the club following Neymar's exit to Barcelona in 2013.

"I can't promise you that he [Ochoa] will agree to it," he added. "He is a big name, [but] nothing is confirmed."

Ochoa is reportedly struggling under Javi Gracia's leadership at Malaga, and Mexico coach Miguel Herrera wants to see him play regularly if he is to continue starting for El Tri.

"I think Guillermo will have his chance, but right now he must wait," said Gracia, who has opted to use Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni instead of Ochoa in 12 La Liga fixtures.

"He is doing well here despite the fact that certain comments we are hearing out of his country [Mexico] are not very gratifying."

The 28-year-old former Ajaccio keeper was reportedly chased by clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal in the summer but, because the player does not have a European Union passport, Khaznadar feels Santos could be an option.

Ochoa became a star at the World Cup, making six saves in a 0-0 draw against hosts Brazil.

He conceded only one goal in three games in the group stage before letting in two in the final minutes of the 2-1 defeat to Netherlands in the round of 16.
