Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan 'annoyed' by Premier League rumours

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has rejected claims he is seeking a switch into Premier League.

The Manchester Evening News published quotes from Gundogan in which he appeared to suggest he was keen to move to England amid reported interest from Manchester United.

However, he told Dortmund newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten on Tuesday: "I have never talked to that paper, and I am annoyed by the discussion.

"The only explanation I have is that an interview I gave to a Turkish TV network [TRT] got lost in translation."

Gundogan, who is under contract at Dortmund until 2016, had told the network that he could envisage himself playing in Spain or England but he added: "I have always said that."

The Germany international, who only returned to action in October after a 14-month spell on the sidelines with a back injury, stressed that he still has goals to achieve at the Westfalenstadion.

"I am 100 percent focused on Borussia Dortmund," said Gundogan, who is still working his way back to form following his time on the sidelines.

The quotes had caused outrage among BVB supporters on social media given that the club is currently enduring an on-field crisis that has seen the team battling in the relegation zone.

The 24-year-old also used his Facebook account to try to calm the situation, writing: "Dear friends, I have been following the situation in the media with amazement with regards to my ALLEGED statements.

"First of all, let me stress that the statements used were only snippets of a one-hour interview, and that additionally they are incorrect."

He asked people to "disregard these reports" and support the team as they prepare for Wednesday's trip to Arsenal in the Champions League.
