Armin Veh resigns as Stuttgart boss with club bottom of Bundesliga

Armin Veh has resigned as Stuttgart coach following Sunday's 1-0 defeat to FC Augsburg, the club have announced.

Veh, 53, rejoined Stuttgart from Eintracht Frankurt in the summer, seven years after winning the Bundesliga during his first stint in charge at the club, but has ended his second tenure after he was unable to stop them dropping to the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

"This was a hard step because club and fans lie at my heart," Veh said in a club statement. "But in the end I had to act like this, because I think it's the right step.

"The team is better than the position in the league. Nine points from 12 games are just not enough."

Stuttgart president Bernd Wahler said that Veh informed the club of his decision after the Augsburg defeat, the club's seventh of the season.

"We respect it, even though we were still convinced of him and his work after the match yesterday," Wahler said.

Stuttgart have not a scored a goal nor picked up a point in their last three league games, and trail 15th-placed Hamburg -- one place above the relegation/promotion playoff spot -- by three points.

Hamburg, Werder Bremen and Schalke have also already replaced their coaches this season.
