Gianluigi Buffon: This could well be my last contract at Juventus

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon admits the new contract he has signed with the club may well be his last after he committed himself to the Serie A leaders until 2017.

The Italy and Juve No. 1 will be 39 when his new deal expires, and he has admitted he may not play on beyond that.

"My story here goes on, but it could well be my last contract," he said at a news conference in Turin. "We'll evaluate everything in due course, but all that matters to me now is trying to carry on performing at the highest level and being the added value of this side in the dressing room and in particular on the field.

"If I am able to carry on performing this way, then we'll look further down the line. Juve have given me everything I was looking for."

In 2017, Buffon will have spent 16 years at the Bianconeri -- a time during which he has won five Serie A titles as well as one World Cup with Italy -- but still feels regret at never having lifted European club football's biggest prize.

"I still have some dreams that I need to pursue," Buffon said. "Let's say the biggest recognition for a player at club level is winning the Champions League and we know that is a dream, but sometimes dreams come true.

"We're not setting ourselves any limits, even though we know it would be a difficult objective to aim for. Today is another special, gratifying day for me. The faith shown in me makes me proud of the decision I took 14 years ago."

Buffon shared the stage at Juventus' training ground with club president Andrea Agnelli and Giorgio Chiellini, who has extended his contract until 2018.

"I'm a bit emotional to tell the truth," said Chiellini. "If I think of all of the people who have helped me grow over the past 10 years -- I have become a man in this city and at this club.

"I was far from my own family, but every day which passed made me feel more and more at ease as part of Juve, which is a big family. Such big families help you to get what we all want and I hope to make this club and the fans proud until the very last day. We all want to dream together."

Chiellini has only one regret: not making it to the 2013-14 Europa League final in Turin, after being knocked out in the semifinals by Benfica.

"If I could rewrite a piece of our history, then it would be the fact that we didn't play in the final of the Europa League in our own home; our own stadium," he said. "It's a regret I will always have. I'm sorry because we were convinced we could have achieved something big."
