Carlo Ancelotti: Real Madrid want to extend Sami Khedira contract

Carlo Ancelotti says Real Madrid are keen to keep Sami Khedira after next season, despite reports linking him with a move to Bayern Munich.

Khedira, 27, has yet to sign a contract extension with the European giants despite his current deal ending next summer, with the Spanish press reporting that Khedira has signed a pre-contract agreement with Bayern.

The Germany international -- who has been limited to just six appearances in all competition for the Bernabeu club this season -- has also been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months, but Ancelotti says the player has a future in Spain.

"The club wants him [Khedira] to sign a contract extension,'' Ancelotti told Spanish radio station RNE. "We consider him a reliable player, who is serious and professional."

Khedira has fallen in the pecking order at Madrid with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos as Ancelotti's preferred duo in midfield.

However, Khedira is expected to be given more playing time over the next few months after a thigh injury ruled out Croatia international Modric until February.

"Modric is a very important player," Ancelotti said. "But we will find a solution. We have a problem but we will solve it by putting another midfielder [in].

"[Toni] Kroos and Khedira are world champions. [Attacking midfielder] Isco is not the last option but another possibility. Isco can play in any position on the pitch.

"For Saturday's game at Eibar we have the option also of putting Isco alongside Khedira."

Khedira moved to the Bernabeu in 2010 from Bundesliga side Stuttgart, and was a member of Germany's World-Cup winning side in Brazil this summer.
