Lorik Cana: Michel Platini failed to condemn violence in Belgrade

Albania captain Lorik Cana has said he is "really annoyed" with UEFA president Michel Platini for "failing to criticise" the violence that he and his teammates were subjected to in Serbia last month.

Lazio midfielder Cana, 31, and the Albania team and staff had to flee to the dressing room when Serbian fans and security forces raced onto the pitch to confront them at a Euro 2016 qualifier in Belgrade on Oct. 14.

The incident, which left members of the Albania delegation nursing injuries, was sparked when a drone with a Kosovo flag attached to it was flown over the pitch.

Referee Martin Atkinson was forced to abandon the match and UEFA declared Albania had forfeited it, handing them a 3-0 defeat as well as a 100,000 euro fine.

Cana told RMC that recent comments made on French TV by Platini -- who had voiced fears the drone could have been carrying a bomb instead of a flag -- had missed the point.

"When I hear Michel Platini on the evening news, when the first thing he should be doing is criticising the violence, talk more about the drone than what happened on the pitch, I think it's not really right on his part," he said. "I am really annoyed with him.

"I know him personally, and I like him a lot. He was one of the greatest players of all time -- but the first thing he had to do was criticise what happened on the pitch.

"A team should not be attacked on the pitch. It's not right not to speak about it."

The Albania FA has appealed to UEFA over the punishments, which saw Serbia handed the win but not the three points.
