Vicente Del Bosque tells Joachim Low not to get complacent after World Cup

Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque has told Germany boss Joachim Low that he needs to put past successes behind him to have a chance of repeating this summer's World Cup win.

On Tuesday, reigning back-to-back European champions Spain meet Germany, who claimed the World Cup from La Roja in Brazil, in a prestige friendly.

Spain won their first-ever World Cup in 2010 -- Del Bosque's first major tournament as coach. They defended their European Championship title two years later, but crashed out in the group stages of the World Cup this summer.

Speaking to dpa, Del Bosque praised the Nationalmannschaft as one of the most consistent teams of the past decade, but also had some words of advice for Low.

"Like he [Low] was emotionally strong when he lost, he now needs to forget that he has won the title and look ahead," he said.

"Those victories from the past don't help you to win the next games. You should not be vain about anything, but always question what you do. Doubts are always positive."

Germany's World Cup triumph was their first title since winning the European Championship in 1996, but despite the lack of silverware in those 18 years they have been a frequent presence in the semifinals of major tournaments.

Since the turn of the century, the Nationalmannschaft have only failed to reach the final four in the 2000 and 2004 European Championships, while making it to the 2002 World Cup final and the European Championship final in 2008, where they lost to Spain.

"Their players always played well and, after 2010, the squad stayed together. They basically continued with the same players and the same coach, of course," Del Bosque added.

"We've got the greatest respect for what Germany have achieved. They did not need a revolution, because they have always been there in the tournaments, and maybe have the most consistent team in Europe."
