Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is back in team training as he targets his first appearance of the season following ankle and knee injuries.

The World Cup-winning Germany captain suffered an ankle injury in preseason after returning from the tournament in Brazil, and then suffered a problem with a knee tendon.

But the 30-year-old was back at the training ground on Tuesday, with Bayern's official Twitter account posting brief footage of his return to Saberner Strasse and a welcome back message.

Earlier this month, Bayern said they were hopeful that Schweinsteiger would return to team training during the international break.

He began training with the ball again last month, and Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told kicker: "It's conceivable that he'll return [to the first team] in 2014. Bastian had a great week, and could resume team training during the international break."

Bayern return to action following the international break with a home match against Hoffenheim on Nov. 22.
