Nicklas Bendtner chirps back after mocking tweet from Gary Lineker

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has opened his account for Wolfsburg -- and hit back at a mocking tweet from former England striker Gary Lineker.

The Denmark international scored twice late on as his team beat Russian outfit Krasnodar in the Europa League, but could face competition for his place after sporting executive Klaus Allofs confirmed the club's interest in Basel youngster Breel Embolo.

After several weeks in which he had failed to make the matchday squad, Bendtner came off the bench 15 minutes from time, with his goals rounding off a 5-1 win.

"Even the unpredictable Bendtner scores twice," German broadsheet Suddeutsche headlined.

Bendtner, whose first goal came from the penalty spot, told reporters: "It's nice that I was able to give something back to the fans. They have always supported me. That was step into the right direction."

And the 26-year-old's goals did not go unnoticed in England, with Lineker tweeting: "Nicklas Bendtner has just scored 2 goals in the last minute for Wolfsburg. This is not a joke. I repeat, this is NOT A joke!"

Bendtner replied: "great Tweet mate! well done, I repeat, well done."

Embolo, however, could be on his way to Wolfsburg after Swiss paper Blick claimed a 12 million-euro deal to bring the 17-year-old over in the winter had already been struck.

"That's a player you need to have on your list. That's part of the homework," Allofs told kicker.

But he rejected reports that the deal had been done, adding: "That's not exactly right -- there is no agreement with the player."
