Bayer Leverkusen star Heung-Min Son welcomes 'Sonaldo' nickname

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Heung-Min Son has said he is delighted to have earned the nickname "Sonaldo" among his teammates.

South Korea international Son has scored 10 goals in 17 competitive games for Leverkusen this season, with his brace at Zenit Saint-Petersburg in the Champions League on Tuesday giving his side a 2-1 win.

Bayer now sit on top of their group, and could advance to the knockout phase of the competition as group winners if they pick up three points from their next match against Monaco.

"My first brace in Champions League -- that's a dream for me, but I don't feel like a hero," he told reporters after the victory in Russia, during which he played in central midfielder. "The whole team is the hero."

Nonetheless, his recent form has elevated his status and he is more than happy to have earned a nickname likening him to Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I am delighted about this nickname since Cristiano Ronaldo is my role model," Son said.

Son has struck 34 goals in 113 Bundesliga games for Hamburg and Leverkusen, while scoring five goals in 14 Champions League games, including qualifiers, with all coming during the current season.
