Bayern's Claudio Pizarro has torn thigh muscle, could miss rest of 2014

Bayern Munich say striker Claudio Pizarro has torn muscles in his right thigh and will be sidelined for weeks.

The 36-year-old forward was injured in practice on Monday, and the injury was confirmed on Wednesday. Pizarro could miss the rest of the year.

"It's obviously a real shame," the 36-year-old told the club's official web site. "I'm crossing my fingers for the team and I hope they can maintain our great run. I'm sure we'll continue to pick up points in the Bundesliga and Champions League even without me."

The veteran Peru forward has played in nine games this season, often being used by coach Pep Guardiola off the bench.

Pizarro joins Bastian Schweinsteiger, Holger Badstuber, Javi Martinez and Thiago Alcantara on Bayern's injured list.
