Real Sociedad confirm David Moyes among 4 candidates for manager job

Real Sociedad are talking to former Manchester United coach David Moyes about their managerial vacancy, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay said in a news conference that the Basque club is considering four coaches to replace Jagoba Arrasate, who was fired on Sunday after just one victory in the team's first 10 league games.

The top two names linked to the job in the Spanish press have been Moyes and Pepe Mel, who last coached West Brom in the second half of last season.

"It's not a question of waiting for a reply from the coaches we have spoken to," Aperribay said. "A number of names have been mentioned in the press, it's true that we have been in contact with Pepe Mel and David Moyes but we are also talking to a number of other coaches."

Aperribay did not name the other two coaches under consideration but did reveal the qualities he's looking for in a new manager.

"We are in talks with all of them and weighing up which of them has the prerequisites: knowledge and understanding of Real Sociedad, a clear grasp of and respect for the values and philosophy of the club, respect for our youth academy and the work we do with the lower divisions," Aperribay said.

Asier Santana and Imanol Alguacil from the existing coaching staff will take charge for Sunday's home game against defending champions Atletico Madrid.

But after that Sociedad do not play again until Nov. 22, and Aperribay said the club is not in a rush to appoint Arrasate's successor.

"Seeing as we do have a fortnight's break in the league, we will take our time, take the conversations we've had [with] prospective candidates into account without making a hasty decision," the president said. "We would prefer to take our time and make sure we make the right choice."

Moyes was fired from Manchester United in April, 10 months after taking over following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
