Jurgen Klopp content with Dortmund's UCL response to Bundesliga trouble

Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp said he used the same set-up against Galatasaray as he did against Bayern Munich last weekend to test his players' response, and he was pleased with the result after a 4-1 victory.

Dortmund are mired in a five-game slump in the Bundesliga, capped by a 2-1 defeat to rivals Bayern on Saturday, but his team have won all four of their Champions League group-stage games.

"I decided to play the same team as against Bayern because we said that we needed a response," Klopp said. "I could see my players continuing where they had left off in the first half against Bayern.

"In both games there were moments when Galatasaray were strong. If you don't defend adequately enough you can see their quality. We have defended very well against them and today we played even better football than in Istanbul [where Dortmund won 4-0]. In both games we were strong and deserved our win, but I don't know if it had to be by that margin. Galatasaray have quality, you could see that."

Klopp's men clinched a spot in the knockout round with the victory, but the manager said he would not be content with second place in the group.

"We are through now, but are not group winners yet. If you have that chance, you should take it," Klopp said. "To go to London and try to somehow squeeze out a draw doesn't sound like such a good idea. We want to enjoy our win, even though we have a difficult league game coming up on Sunday [against Borussia Monchengladbach].

"There was enough patience and after a great through ball we opened the scoring. This knack of scoring goals at the right time is something I would like to take from this game and conserve, but I know it will not always be possible. We wanted a result, but also development. I saw that and we will try to build on it."
