Arsene Wenger: Alexis Sanchez's quality is exceptional

Arsene Wenger hailed the performance of Alexis Sanchez as the Chilean scored twice to seal a convincing 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.

Sanchez has bagged seven goals in nine appearances since joining from Barcelona in the summer and Arsenal, unbeaten in their last 23 games at home in the Premier League, moved up to fourth in the table.

In his postmatch news conference, Wenger hailed the man who has got them there.

He said: "It was a top performance from Alexis Sanchez. His quality is exceptional, he takes responsibility and goes at people. He fights, he can score, that is what you want from great players.

"He has the attributes of a fighter and of a quality, talented player. That's what you want to see in every football player.

"Since he has played through the middle he looks more dangerous because he is in full confidence, is physically strong, he likes to take people on and he makes perfect runs."

The Gunners boss said he was pleased with his side's overall performance, adding: "It was a question of patience and quality, and I think we did all of that.

"It was important not to concede a goal and in the end it was a comfortable win but everyone works hard in the Premier League."

The Gunners also saw Theo Walcott return in the Premier League -- his first appearance in 2014 as he suffered a serious knee injury in an FA Cup tie against Tottenham in January -- as he came on as a sub in the 80th minute.

"That appearance from Theo Walcott gives him the confidence to play again. I think he will soon be back to his best level," said Wenger.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche also hailed Sanchez, saying: "His movement and energy was incredible. He was non-stop. Forget about his quality -- his determination was excellent.

"I have told my strikers to look at how he played and take heed."

Burnley remain bottom and continue to search for a first league win since promotion, and the manager said: "So far this season we have played six out of the top 10, and we are not ready for that.

"I always plan to win, but once Arsenal got their noses in front they were clinical. They put us to the sword, but they are a very good side.

"If we don't win eventually fans will question it, but we are honest and open about it. We have taken the fans on a journey they probably didn't think they would have again."
