Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez: Playing time up to Real Madrid

Fresh off his goal-scoring performance in Real Madrid's 4-1 Copa del Rey victory over Cornella, on-loan striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez refused to be drawn on whether he deserves more playing time from coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Mexico international's chances as a Madrid starter have been just as elusive as they were at Manchester United thus far: He has started just once in La Liga this season.

But given a chance from Ancelotti on Wednesday, the 26-year-old rolled Madrid's third goal past Cornella goalkeeper Segovia in the 53rd minute.

"I'm never going to get into this debate [about being a starter]. I am a player. Every chance I get I'll try to show how good I am, but at the end of the day it is the decision of the coach," Hernandez said. "I am just working hard to have a chance to play and enjoy it, as I did today, and to put the Madrid name up there."

Hernandez also defended Real Madrid's aggressive play against the third-division club.

"The coach asked us to go out and play professionally, just as though this were a clasico," said Hernandez. "James got me a pass, but it was a bit behind me so I tried to create a wall with Karim [Benzema] and then I got the shot toward goal. The most important thing for us was to have a victory in the first leg."
