Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney fit for derby vs. City - sources

Wayne Rooney is set to return to Manchester United's team against Manchester City on Sunday, after fears he would miss the derby were dismissed.

The United captain was seen limping at an event with club sponsors on Monday, but sources close to the club told ESPN FC that the 29-year-old is fully fit.

Manager Louis van Gaal is expected to bring Rooney back into the starting XI after he missed United's last three games.

The England international has not played for the club since September after he was suspended for three matches for his sending-off against West Ham.

Rooney, whose 11 goals in Manchester derbies are a record in the fixture, could replace Juan Mata, who has been substituted in United's last two games.

United are also waiting to see whether striker Radamel Falcao, who missed Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea because of a knee injury, is fit to feature at the Etihad Stadium.
