Arsene Wenger, John Terry among stars to voice London Tube messages

The voice of Arsene Wenger and a whole host of others from the footballing world will be heard around London Underground stations as part of "London Poppy Day" on Thursday.

While commuters may not hear "I did not see it" from the Arsenal manager as they journey to work, Wenger will be helping out by voicing announcements, such as the famous "mind the gap," at stations in aid of the Royal British Legion's annual appeal.

The Frenchman will be joined by his captain Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, Holloway Road and Finsbury Park stations, while the voices of a number of other footballers will be heard near to their respective stadiums across the capital.

Announcements from Tottenham's Andros Townsend and Ben Davies can be found at Seven Sisters, Tottenham Hale and Tottenham Court Road, and those travelling through West London will be greeted by Chelsea captain John Terry at Fulham Broadway, Earl's Court and West Brompton stations.

Further afield, QPR duo Joey Barton and Rob Green will be voicing the announcements at White City, Wood Lane and Shepherd's Bush Market, while Fulham pair Scott Parker and Dan Burn will be doing their bit at Putney Bridge and Parson's Green.

The event is not strictly limited to footballers as celebrities including Sir Terry Wogan, Joanna Lumley and Stephen Fry will also be getting in on the act.

Transport for London has also created a special poppy design -- including the line from John McCrae's "In Flanders fields the poppies blow" poem -- which will feature on all Tube and Docklands Light Railway trains.
