Conti targeting Malaysia Cup final heroics for second year running

Argentine striker Matias Conti is ready to be the match winner for Pahang FA again when they take on Johor Darul Takzim FC (JDT) in the Malaysia Cup final at the National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Conti was the hero for the Elephants when they defeated Kelantan FA 1-0 in the final last year. With 17 goals under his belt this season, the mercurial striker wants to cap his fantastic season with another significant strike on Saturday.

As reported in The New Straits Times, Conti said: "I want to do well on Saturday. I am fit and raring for action. It will be great to score again in the final but my priority is my team. It does not matter who scores as long we win."

He scored nine goals in last year's Malaysia Cup campaign and has six to his name this time out despite being suspended for the quarterfinal after a red card in the group stages.

The final will see a wealth of Argentine attacking talent on show with JDT relying heavily on their 31-goal duo of Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Luciano Figueroa.

Both teams will be going for their second major silverware of the season. Pahang won the FA Cup while JDT were crowned Malaysian Super League champions .

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are expecting major traffic issues on match day with two other non-football related events taking place outside the stadium in Bukit Jalil.

New Straits Times reported that FAM competitions committee chairman Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah said: "I anticipate a massive jam in Bukit Jalil on match day. Pahang did not want to play on Friday as it is a working day in their state while Johor gave the same reason when we proposed Sunday. Both teams want to play on Saturday."

Afandi was speaking after chairing the Malaysia Cup final liaison committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Monday.

"We expect more than 90,000 fans at National Stadium on match day and probably an additional of 20,000 people for the Buddhist and Sarawak Association events. More than 500 charted buses from Pahang and Johor will also arrive in Bukit Jalil, not including fans driving to the stadium for the match."

Datuk Afandi urged fans of both clubs to map out their traveling plans early to avoid problems getting into the stadium on time for the kick off.

"We do not want anything untoward on match day so buses from Pahang and Johor will send their passengers to the stadium first before parking at Teknologi Park Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia respectively," he said. "I also encourage fans to use public transport to Bukit Jalil as parking spots will be limited. We have spoken to RapidKL to extend operating hours. Buses must leave their passengers at the stadium before 2pm and if they arrive late, security may not allow them into the area. This rule also applies to those with own transport.

"As for ticket allocation, each team will be given 40,000 tickets while another 10,000 will be sold online at www.tickethotline.com.my. We will not open ticket counters at the stadium."
