Inter Milan president Erick Thohir has said he will "see how the next two games go" as questions continue to surround the future of coach Walter Mazzarri despite a return to winning ways at the weekend.

Inter picked up the three points with a 1-0 win at struggling Cesena on Sunday, but the unconvincing manner of their victory has done little to lessen the scrutiny of Mazzarri.

A Mauro Icardi penalty sealed their first win in four matches, but forthcoming games against Sampdoria and Parma are likely to prove much tougher tests for the former Napoli coach.

"I have faith in Mazzarri and in his work," Thohir was reported as saying by Indonesian website Vivabola. "Last year, we set the objective of qualifying for Europe and we succeeded. We need to be fair in analysing the issue of our coach.

"Let's see how the next two games go -- but changing your coach during a season is never a good solution. We want to give him another opportunity. There are lots of rumours about a new coach, but we aim for the best for Inter."

Inter are four points behind Udinese in third -- the position they want to occupy at the end of the season, with Thohir saying Champions League football is not beyond his them.

"Just look at Roma and where they were three years ago," he added. "This season, they are already in a position to challenge for the scudetto. Our ultimate objective is to finish inside the top four, but we might change it. It's not impossible to qualify for the Champions League."

With AC Milan held 1-1 by Fiorentina on Sunday, a pack of clubs is forming behind leaders Juventus and second-placed Roma and the race for third place is set to be intense.

The final of this season's Champions League will be played at the San Siro in Milan.
