Ligue 1: Nice's Carlos Eduardo scores five, Marseille run ended

Carlos Eduardo scored five times as Nice moved up to seventh in Ligue 1 with a staggering 7-2 victory at rock-bottom Guingamp.

Claudio Beauvue headed Guingamp into an early lead but that was as good as it got for the hosts as Eduardo's first-half hat-trick and Alassane Plea's goal on the stroke of half-time put Nice in charge.

Eduardo bagged another two after the interval, while Eric Bautheac scored the away side's seventh shortly after Ronnie Schwartz had pulled one back for Guingamp, who were brought back down to earth following last week's surprise 2-1 win at Lille.

Lyon ended Marseille's eight-match winning run with a 1-0 triumph at the Stade de Gerland.

Yoann Gourcuff's 64th-minute strike against the run of play was enough to steer Les Gones to victory over the league leaders.

l'OM, who have won eight of their first 11 matches, are four points clear of second-placed Paris St Germain at the top but Lyon are now up to third and five points off first place themselves.

Max Gradel's second-half strike made it back-to-back wins for St Etienne as they edged Metz 1-0 at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Christophe Galtier's side got back to winning ways at Lorient last weekend and followed that up with a creditable goalless draw away at Inter Milan in the Europa League in midweek.

This contest looked to be heading towards the same scoreline, before Gradel stepped up to finally make Les Verts' superiority count 16 minutes from time.

Victory takes the hosts up to third, while Metz slip to 10th after their winless run was extended to three matches.

Two goals early in the second half were enough to hand Rennes a 2-0 victory over Lille.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Habib Habibou broke the deadlock just a minute after the break and eight minutes later Abdoulaye Doucoure's strike completed the scoring.

A third clean sheet in a row moved Rennes above their opponents on goal difference while Lille have now lost three in a row.
