Marouane Fellaini: More to come after first Manchester United goal

Marouane Fellaini savoured his first Manchester United goal as he ended his long drought against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night, and said he hoped it will be the first of many.

The Belgium international came off the bench to score United's first equaliser in the 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns, ending a 24-game, 14-month wait for a goal following his 27.5 million-pound move from Everton in 2013.

"It was a good feeling, I have waited for a long time for this moment and now I have scored, so I hope to score some more goals this season," Fellaini told Sky Sports.

But Fellaini was not best pleased with the result, which left United 10 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea ahead of difficult games against Jose Mourinho's team on Sunday and defending champions Manchester City a week later.

"It was my first goal this season and for Manchester United as well, so it was good for me," he said. "But the result was a disappointment because our two next games are very difficult games. For the confidence, it is not so good."

Manager Louis van Gaal sent Fellaini on at half-time to replace Ander Herrera, with the midfielder fulfilling the Dutchman's instructions: "I have to put pressure [on the opposition] and go into the box. I did that and I scored, so it was good for me and the team."

Fellaini endured a difficult first year at Old Trafford, which culminated in the sacking of the manager who signed him, David Moyes.

The 26-year-old missed the start of the current campaign through injury and is yet to begin a game for new manager Van Gaal, but vowed to do his best to break into the side.

"It was very difficult but I work hard every day and I know that when I am 100 percent fit then I can be dangerous," he added.

"Football is like this, sometimes you have bad moments and that was one. But I am ready for the challenge and to play every game. I am happy here and the manager has shown trust in me. Every day in training, I work hard and after that the manager makes a decision."
