JDT through to Malaysia Cup semis with 3-1 victory over Terengganu

Johor Darul Takzim's (JDT) quest for the double remains on track after they defeated Terengganu FA 3-1 at the Larkin Stadium on Thursday night to set up a Malaysia Cup semifinal meeting with Felda United FC.

JDT head coach Bojan Hodak decided not to risk the weary legs of Singapore midfielder Hariss Harun and replaced him in the starting lineup with Argentine forward Jorge Pereyra Diaz for the second leg of the quarterfinal. After the 0-0 home draw in the first leg, the visiting Turtles made three changes with Ahmad Azlan Zainal, Muhaimin Omar and Zairo Anuar Zailani coming into the team.

Malaysian international Safiq Rahim was unstoppable as he netted a brace in the 16th and 72th minute with former Villarreal FC striker Luciano Figueroa also getting on the score sheet in the 22nd minute.

Terengganu, who have spent the past week battling the rescheduling of the fixture, seemed jaded. Ashaari Samsudin was the only saving grace with his 60th minute goal giving brief hope to the Turtles.

Hodak's charges will have little time to celebrate as their semifinal first leg clash with Felda will take place on Monday Oct. 20 at the Selayang stadium. Kedah FA will face Pahang FA a day earlier at the Darulaman stadium in Alor Star, Kedah.
