Pull of Van Gaal link-up too strong - Blind (1:58)

New Manchester United signing Daley Blind insists the opportunity to link up with Louis Van Gaal again was an opportunity too good to pass up. (1:58)

Daley Blind has shrugged off comparisons with Roy Keane, saying it is premature to mention him in the same breath as one of Manchester United's great captains.

Dutchman Blind has made four appearances in the United midfield since completing a 14 million-pound move from Ajax on the final day of the transfer window.

Many pundits have said United have lacked a leader in midfield during the time since Keane's 12-year Old Trafford career ended in 2005.

But Blind told the Manchester Evening News he should not be burdened with the expectations of being the new Keane, saying: "Let's not go overboard. It's going quite well, but we've only just started."

The 24-year-old has been praised for his passing during his United career so far, and said he had been helped to fit in by the fact that his new club share a similar style of play to Ajax.

He added: "I can say I have settled in quite well. In England it is not very usual to start the build-up from the back. United do.

"This is where my Ajax background becomes useful. Starting the build-up there is our second nature."

Blind helped Netherlands to a third-placed finish at the World Cup in the summer, but said he had suddenly gained in popularity on social media sites when he joined United.

"I had only just signed for Manchester United when my Twitter account exploded," he explained. "This club is so huge."

Blind said he had found both past United greats and current big names helpful as he got used to life at Old Trafford.

He said: "Sir Bobby Charlton comes into the dressing after every match. [That is] nice to see. He is that iconic figure of the club.

"Robin van Persie helped me out a lot in the early stages. Now I hang out with the other players too. We've got a nice group of players, with the likes of [Angel] Di Maria and [Radamel] Falcao.

"They are world-class players but very down to earth. Falcao even seems shy when you meet him for the first time. It's up to me to reach their level."
