Mexico leave out Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jesus Corona for October friendlies

Mexico coach Miguel Herrera finalised his list of players for El Tri's October friendlies, adding Tijuana Xolos midfielder Javier Guemez, but leaving out Cruz Azul goalkeeper Jesus Corona.

El Tri will play two friendlies in October: Oct. 9 vs. Honduras at Victor Manuel Reyna stadium in Chiapas and on Oct. 12 vs. Panama at Queretaro.

Herrera, who named the Europe-based players last week, said there was no controversy involved in leaving Corona behind.

"He is not off the team. I would like to look at other players, it is nothing more," Herrera told ESPN. "I don't like [to recall three goalkeepers] because then one doesn't get to play. Don't ask me about a player if you want to create drama. There is no drama. This was discussed with Corona. I told him, 'you are on my mind. You will be called up.' Today there is a different list. His last performance was extraordinary. He wasn't recalled because he wasn't recalled, nothing more."

About the addition of Xolos midfielder Javier Guemez, Atlas' Alfonso Arturo Gonzalez and Cruz Azul's Julio Cesar Dominguez, Herrera said: "they have earnd the chance, they have been playing very well."

The players will begin training on Oct. 5.

Last week, Mexico recalled a number of its Europe-based players, including Real Madrid striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and left out Real Sociedad's Carlos Vela.

Malaga goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, on loan Rayo Vallecano winger Javier Aquino, Porto's Hector Herrera and Chivas USA's Erick Torres were included with Hernandez. Herrera left out Porto's Diego Reyes and the Villarreal brother duo of Jonathan and Giovani dos Santos.
