Liverpool forward Suso sidelined for two months with groin injury

Liverpool forward Suso has confirmed that he will be out of action for "a couple of months" as he is set to undergo an operation on his groin.

Suso, 20, was not involved in Wednesday's 1-0 Champions League Group B defeat against Basel despite travelling to Switzerland with the squad.

The Spaniard had hoped to impress back in England after scoring three times in La Liga to help keep Almeria in the top flight, but the latest setback will likely keep him on the sidelines until December at the earliest.

The forward posted a photo of him icing his leg on Instagram with the accompanying message: "Hellow everyone. Just to tell you I'll be out of the team for a couple of months with a surgery operation next week coz of my groins ... I'll be back soon.. Stronger than ever..YNWA."

Manager Brendan Rodgers revealed last week that Suso, who is in the final season of his contract at Anfield, is in talks over a new deal.

The Spain under-21 international, who arrived on Merseyside from Cadiz at the age of 16 in 2010, is keen to secure his Liverpool future after spending last season on loan at Almeria, who he helped avoid relegation from La Liga by one point. He has made only one appearance so far this season, coming on as a substitute to score in the Capital One Cup third-round tie against Middlesbrough on Sep. 23, which the Reds won 14-13 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Rodgers said of Suso last week: "He's a young boy who has come in and worked hard in pre-season, but he hasn't had a lot of game time. "That's been difficult for him, I'm sure, but he's never shown it. He's shown the same appetite in training."
