Olivier Giroud agrees two-year contract extension with Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that striker Olivier Giroud has agreed a two-year extension to his current contract.

Giroud, 28 on Tuesday, is currently recovering from surgery on a broken left tibia and will be out of action until the end of the year. However, he has been rewarded for some fine form over the past few seasons and will continue to play for the north London club until 2018.

When asked about the situation with Giroud -- currently out injured with an ankle problem -- Wenger said: "It is done. We want stability and to keep the core of our team together. Giroud is an important player here. It is agreed. When it is completely done, we will announce it.

"We want stability and we want to keep the core of our team together because I am a great believer in that. We have a young bunch of players now, and the core of our team is now basically young English talents, and I believe as well that Giroud is an important player here."

Wenger, speaking ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray, also had a fitness update on Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey.

The former has a calf problem and the latter a hamstring strain, and they are expected to miss four weeks each.

"To be generous with time, four weeks. If all goes well, three. Arteta is the same, maybe a bit quicker. It will be after the international break," he said.
