Marseille climb back to Ligue 1 summit, Bordeaux beat Rennes

Marseille returned to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday evening with a 2-1 win at home to St Etienne.

The hosts got off to an impressive start and goals from Gilbert Imbula and Dimitri Payet had them two ahead before the half-hour.

Jonathan Brison pulled one back early in the second half, but OM finished the stronger to go two points clear of Bordeaux at the top of the table.

Bordeaux picked up their fifth Ligue 1 win of the season and moved to the top of the table for a few hours after a goal three minutes into injury time saw them to a 2-1 victory over Rennes at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

The home side took the lead through Wahbi Khazri after 73 minutes before Rennes levelled nine minutes from time through substitute Mamadou Habibou.

However, with 93 minutes on the clock, Thomas Toure found the net to earn Willy Sagnol's side the spoils and move them onto 17 points from eight games.

Lyon maintained their unbeaten run through September but Jordan Veretout's 72nd-minute penalty helped Nantes claim a 1-1 draw at La Beaujoire-Louis Fonteneau.

The visitors had beaten Monaco and Lorient, in-between a draw with Paris Saint-Germain, and appeared to be on course to collect three points on Sunday when Bakary Kone opened the scoring shortly after the interval.

But Kone went from hero to villain as his foul on Georges-Kevin N'Koudou in the penalty area gave Nantes a way back into the match, with Veretout making no mistake from 12 yards out.

Promoted sides Lens and Caen played out an entertaining 90 minutes but failed to produce a goal in a 0-0 draw at the Stade de la Licorne.

Antoine Kombouare's Lens mustered the best chance of the match in the 64th minute, but Yoann Touzghar contrived to fire over the bar from close range -- much to the fury of his coach.

The result left both teams on eight points and in 14th and 13th places respectively -- just one point above the relegation zone after eight games.
