Mamadou Sakho apologises to Reds fans for skipping Merseyside derby

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has apologised on social media for leaving Anfield before the Merseyside derby against Everton.

Sakho, 24, was not selected by Reds manager Brendan Rodgers in the squad for Saturday's 1-1 draw.

The France international was photographed by a fan leaving the stadium before the Premier League clash, but he has since taken to Facebook to say sorry for his behaviour.

"I really want to apologise to the club, the supporters and every person who felt offended when I left the stadium this afternoon," he wrote. "I'm aware that it was a bad choice from my part to go isolating to watch the game!"

The defender, who joined Liverpool from Paris Saint-Germain last year, also reiterated his apology on Twitter.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka's last-minute strike earned his side a point at Anfield, having cancelled out Steven Gerrard's opener.

Toffees manager Roberto Martinez hailed Jagielka's goal as the "best" he had seen live, while Rodgers was left frustrated at seeing his team drop two points.
