Thailand upset China to reach Asian Games quarterfinal

Thailand kept the South East Asia flag flying at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, by upsetting China 2-0 to book a quarterfinal berth against Jordan.

Two second-half strikes by Thailand striker Adisak Kraisorn -- the first of which was a spectacular volley -- sealed China's hopes of progressing to their first ever Asian Games quarterfinal.

Kraisorn, 23, capitalised on the first half red card to Chinese defender Ting Yang and raised his tournament tally to five. Only Indonesia's Ferdinand Alfred Sinaga, with eight goals, has scored more in the tournament.

Thailand have scored 13 goals in the tournament, while their defence have kept a clean slate and the team will be confident as they head to the last eight meeting with Jordan.

Thailand joins South East Asian neighbours Indonesia and Vietnam in the quarterfinal. Vietnam had stunned Asian giants Iran 4-1 to reach the quarterfinal and they take on United Arab Emirates on Friday. Indonesia will lock horns with North Korea in their quarterfinal fixture, also scheduled for the same day.

A mouth-watering match-up between Asian giants Japan and South Korea will complete the quarterfinal stage.

The Asian Games football tournament is an under-23 event with each team permitted three senior players.
