Robert Pires to play for FC Goa in Indian Super League

Robert Pires will play for FC Goa in the inaugural Indian Super League, which is set to kick-off early next month.

The 40-year-old former French international is one of the "marquee" international players to feature in the league, along with Nicolas Anelka, Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet.

FC Goa, one of the eight teams in the league, will be coached by former Brazilian legend Arthur Antunes Coimbra, fondly known as Zico.

Pires, who played a key role for France in their 1998 World Cup and Euro 2002 winning squads said he was "excited" to be a part of the league.

"I look forward to my time in Goa and India and to contribute positively to the development of football in the country," he was quoted as saying by India's NDTV.

FC Goa have also announced India's star cricketer, Virat Kohli, as a co-owner of the club.

The league kicks-off on Oct. 12, with FC Goa set to play their first game against Chennaiyin FC at home on Oct. 16.

Other teams in the league include Kerala Blasters, Mumbai City FC, FC Pune City, Delhi Dynamos, Atletico de Kolkata and North East United.
