Werder Bremen starlet Davie Selke pens new deal until 2018

Werder Bremen have extended the contract of European Under-19 Championship winner Davie Selke until 2018.

Selke, 19, impressed as Germany picked up their crown in Hungary in July and his club have now acted to warn off potential suitors to the forward whose previous deal was up for renewal next summer.

"We're delighted that Davie has decided to commit his long-term future to Werder,'' said the club's director of sport, Thomas Eichin.

"He's shown his potential and proven his great determination. We're sure that he is going to take another important step forward in the years to come and we're all going to take a lot of pleasure in watching him.''

Selke has already made his Bundesliga debut, although he is not yet a regular in Robin Dutt's side, having made only six brief appearances to date.

He can expect more action in the months to come, though, with Dutt sharing Eichin's delight in his decision to stick with the northern Germany club.

"We're looking forward to continuing working together with Davie,'' said the Werder coach.

For Selke, Bremen is already the second club of his professional career, having arrived from Hoffenheim in January 2013.

"I'm really delighted that Werder and the coach have shown this faith in me,'' he said. "I knew right from the start that I wanted to stay here.

"I'm really happy with the team, the city and everything about it, including the fans, who have supported me from the beginning.''
