Joe Hart: Manchester City were unlucky to lose to Bayern Munich

Joe Hart feels Manchester City deserved more than a 1-0 Champions League defeat away to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

- Jolly: City's night turns sour

Despite Bayern creating a whole host of chances, City looked to be heading back to Manchester with a point from their opening Group E game.

However, Jerome Boateng found the back of the net against his old club with a deflected effort late on to secure all three points for Pep Guardiola's side.

"We fought hard all night against a really good team and had chances as well -- we played well but just a nasty deflection at the end has done us and Jerome Boateng comes back to haunt us," Hart told City's official website.

"If that Kun [Sergio Aguero] chance goes in at the end it would have been a completely different story. It would have been a well deserved draw, we made good clearances, we made good blocks and we made them work hard for everything. I tend to be busy against German teams but it's just a shame we didn't come away with the result -- that's the important thing.

"We showed that we can match Bayern Munich but we have some very tough games now and we have to play well against CSKA [Moscow] and Roma now. Last year we had a poor start against Bayern but we won the rest of our games and qualified -- we're confident we can do that again this time."

City full-back Bacary Sagna, who filled in for the suspended Pablo Zabaleta, was equally disappointed to see his side finish the game without anything to show for it.

"We kept working really hard until the end and it was a goal at the end but we had chances as well," Sagna said. "We played against great players, one of the best teams in Europe but we defended as a team.

"We kept the ball, not as much as they did but we played well and of course we're disappointed. We need to think about Chelsea now as we have a very difficult game on Sunday. It's very bad because until the end we were focused and we conceded a poor goal."

City manager Manuel Pellegrini could not carry out any post-match media duties because of his touchline ban. Instead, his assistant Ruben Cousillas, who called the shots from the technical area, spoke of City's misfortune.

"Definitely we are frustrated. We played a really good game and also [gave] good entertainment for the people," Cousillas said. "We had two teams trying to score goals but to concede in the last minute was frustrating.

"It's the first game, we have only just begun. There are many games ahead and we don't have to be too sad. We can still be first in the group."
