Ben Foster plays down injury fears after fractured thumb

West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster has played down surgery fears after suffering a fractured thumb.

Foster was forced to return from England duty during the recent international break due to the injury but believes he can cope with the problem with the aid of pain-killing jabs.

The 31-year-old intends to play at Tottenham on Sunday as 19th placed West Brom seek their first win of the Premier League campaign.

"There was a little bit of bone that I chipped off it in training, which is a little bit unfortunate,'' Foster told the Birmingham Mail. "Hopefully I won't need surgery. I am managing it pretty well and getting some injections in it to kill the pain, so it's fine.

"It is the way it is and I just have to hope it heals itself. I'm hopeful it will and the doctors are as well, so that's that.''
