Tim Howard says Romelu Lukaku aims to be world's best striker

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard believes his teammate Romelu Lukaku has set his sights on becoming one of the best players in the world.

Lukaku scored his first goal since sealing a 28 million pound move from Chelsea to Goodison Park in Saturday's 2-0 win against West Bromwich Albion, with USA keeper Howard impressed by both his attitude and his quality.

"He wants to be the best footballer in the world, he really does," said Howard. "That's what he thinks of himself. He gets his head down and he works, and we push him.

"He's electric, he's alive, he celebrates goals in training, everything counts to him. Everything matters. That's what you want to see. There are too many young kids that take it for granted. Romelu doesn't. He cost a lot of money but he is not arrogant, he is hungry.

"He was always going to go for a big fee, but he is not affected by that stuff. He is a kid, a kid who likes to play video games and play football, that's it. Even the video games he plays are football. With guys of his talent, the sky is the limit."

West Brom keeper Ben Foster joined the chorus of praise for Lukaku, after he was beaten by one of the Belgian's stinging long-range efforts at the Hawthorns.

"That's his weak foot," he said, reflecting on an eye-catching opening goal from the Belgian striker. "That's what 28 million pounds buys you. That one little sniff of goal and he will take it.

"He was a fantastic signing for Everton and they have done really well to get him because I thought he was a banker to be going to one of the massive, monster clubs."
