Mauricio Pochettino: stadium:mk is a possibility for Tottenham groundshare

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino says stadium:mk in Milton Keynes is a possibility to become the club's temporary home for the 2017-18 season.

The north London club need to move from their White Hart Lane home for a year as building commences on their new 56,000-seater arena, which will be constructed on land next to their current stadium.

Spurs announced on Wednesday it is "highly unlikely" they will move into their planned new stadium for the start of the 2017-18 season after a High Court challenge was launched by one of the landowners on the site.

Wembley, London's Olympic Stadium and even Arsenal's Emirates Stadium have been mentioned as possible alternative venues, yet Pochettino has hinted that a move almost 50 miles up the M1 motorway could be attractive.

"I was in Milton Keynes to watch the game against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup," said Pochettino.

"It was the first time I've watched a game there, and it is a very good stadium with very good facilities but nothing more, it's just a possibility.

"We need to speak a lot about this decision, because we need to take all the information and different situations for the club, the supporters and the team. At the moment we don't talk about this decision.

"I think every single decision that is made by the club is to improve the club and to give it better facilities and make things better for supporters."

The option of sharing stadium:mk with MK Dons appears to be a sensible economic move for Tottenham: hiring Wembley or a move to the Olympic Stadium could prove expensive and problematic, while sharing the home of their fierce rivals Arsenal is unlikely to be welcomed by fans of either club.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust (THST) fears the club's identity risks being severely damaged if the wrong groundshare option is taken.

Meanwhile, Pochettino has revealed he will name a new club captain to replace the departed Michael Dawson on Monday, with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and defenders Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen potential candidates.
