Franck Ribery poised to make Bayern Munich return after knee injury

Franck Ribery is set to make his first Bayern Munich appearance of the season against Stuttgart at the weekend after recovering from a knee injury.

Ribery, 31, last featured for Bayern in the DFB-Pokal final in May. He missed out on a place in France's World Cup squad through injury before announcing his decision to retire from international football.

He told Bayern's official website: "I feel good, and I'm fit for Saturday. Now I need to get into a rhythm."

Speaking to Sport Bild, Ribery compared Bayern Munich's star-studded squad with Real Madrid, the team they lost to in the Champions League semifinals last season.

He said he believed the Bundesliga champions have one major advantage over Los Blancos -- their team spirit.

"Madrid also have many stars," he said. "But we have a totally different mentality. We are one family. That's the difference between us and Real. At Madrid, there are many big stars who only want to play for themselves."

While Ribery's decision to focus on Bayern and leave international football behind has not gone down well with UEFA president and former France captain Michel Platini, it stands and has been discussed with France coach Didier Deschamps.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said it had been agreed that the winger would no longer be invited to join the national squad, making Platini's threat to ban the player should he refuse a summons to international duty redundant.
