Mario Gotze 'tempted' by move abroad from Bayern Munich in the future

Mario Gotze has not ruled out leaving Bayern Munich for a foreign club in the next few years, telling Sport Bild that "a move abroad would be tempting."

Gotze, 22, joined Bayern in a 37 million-euro transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2013. In his first season in Munich, the attacking midfielder won the domestic double and scored 14 goals in 42 competitive matches.

The Germany international wrote his name into the history books by scoring the World Cup-winning goal in Brazil as Die Nationalmannschaft secured a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the final.

Despite a huge trophy collection including three Bundesliga titles, two German Cups and the World Cup, Gotze has been criticised in Germany for alleged arrogance, focusing on commercial deals, and for some indifferent performances.

On Tuesday, Suddeutsche Zeitung published a piece which said that "with the deciding goal in the World Cup final against Argentina, Gotze already has the presumed highlight of his career past him" but added: "It looks like he's about to enter the most important season of his career."

In an interview with German sports publication Sport Bild, Gotze said allegations that he was arrogant were false.

"Those who maintain that don't know. It's not the truth," he insisted. "I am a fairly down-to-earth guy who only wants to focus on football and have fun. That's important. But, sadly, the perception from the outside sometimes is different."

Gotze said he believed he had not yet reached his peak, explaining: "Personally, I want to do even more and further myself. But you should not forget that I've already achieved a lot in my 22 years."

With his immediate future lying with Bayern, where the "huge competition" for a place in Pep Guardiola's starting XI is "important for reaching high goals," Gotze said he had not ruled out moving away from Germany in the future.

"I am very, very happy to be playing at Bayern, in Germany," he said. "But I might play for another 14 years, and a move abroad would certainly not be bad.

"A foreign country would also be tempting for someone of my personality, but I have not given it serious thought yet."
